Short film by Amalia Kasdepke & Riccardo Zaffarano, shot in Portugal
Saudade is a Portuguese word considered untranslatable in most languages. It describes a bittersweet longing for something or someone that has been lost, that is far away, or that perhaps never truly existed. Remembering it, though, brings its own pleasure, almost an enjoyment of the longing itself.
The film doesn't tell a story in a narrative sense, but captures the snapshot of a feeling: childhood, carefree summers, that suspended atmosphere in which time seemed endless. The portal that makes this journey possible is the foosball table, a simple object that, for the length of a match, makes time flow slowly again.
A Picari Studio production, with the support of 25 Horas Audiovisuais. Special thanks to Clube Português de Caravanismo for their collaboration and hospitality during filming.
